Chris & Victoria - Wedding

For the second time in my life, I had the singularly disorienting (and wonderful) experience of being both a member of the wedding party and the photographer. This is a bit more feasible at LDS weddings like this one - no procession down the aisle to capture. The ceremony is private and happens in the temple, where photography is not a thing.

The couple consists of two friends of mine - a special treat, rather than belonging to one side of the aisle, only. Chris & Victoria were part of a mutual group of friends that spent a lot of time together, and it was fun to get to watch them gradually pair off and realize that they never wanted to stop being friends.

Since there is not photography inside the temple, Victoria wanted to find another way to have a "first look" picture. He didn't like being out of the loop, but Chris behaved and never saw the dress until he was given the ok the day of. We stopped by at the temple early so she could get changed and come out to met him.

After the ceremony, we got the usual round of photos - them on their way out to meet the family, group shots, just the couple. Anywhere I managed to appear is thanks to the investment I made in buying a remote trigger I hid in my hand and the tripod I dragged along.

(Photographer's aside: I don't know why, but I really love the above shot best cross-processed.)

After we were done down at the Houston temple, we drove ALL THE WAY back to Austin for a backyard reception. Their guestbook idea was really adorable - they used engagement shots to make puzzles that guests were asked to sign for the couple as a keepsake.

All in all, adorable. And at the end, everyone played with FIRE!

And just an ending shout-out to the groomsmen who help hold my stuff and round people up. It's rough shooting a wedding in heels and a skirt, let me tell you...

Katie & Brock Wedding

December weddings are so much less... snowy and unpredictable in Texas.  This wedding was down in Houston, in a really lovely area, I might add.  The couple was adorable and their family was a lot of fun.  It was an all-around good day.  Now to catch up on editing...

Texas Update

I'm failing at this blogging thing, but I promise I haven't been idle!

Life is busy down here in Texas.  Back in December, I took a drive up to Dallas area to join Kira and Cam for their wedding open house and take some pictures for them.

But really, most of my time has been spent with buildings lately.  Between working with another area photographer and working on my own portfolio, architecture is ruling my life.  It helps make things interesting when there are lots of awesome homes as well as commercial buildings in the area.  Stay tuned for more building images... for there shall be many.

Kira and Cam and a little relocation

You know how I kind of dropped off the face of the earth for a while and ran off to Europe?  Kira was one of the lovely friends I lived and worked with out there, and she's getting married to Cam soon!

I had the fun opportunity to take their engagement photos before leaving - yes, I said leaving - Utah for the foreseeable future.  I relocated to Austin, TX for the time being, a couple hours from Kira's home town.  Now I'm available to shoot in the Lone Star State, or anywhere else if you really want to fly me there.

Meg and Eric Engagements... and updates

Preparations are well underway to leave the country, and I've still been trying to shoot amidst minor chaos.  For example, this lovely couple graced me with the opportunity to help them publicize their upcoming nuptials ("nuptials" is a funny word).

The three of us even got a ride on the merry-go-round.

In other news, the countdown has officially shortened to a fortnight (two weeks) before I leave to Europe.  The possibilities are thrilling - I'm exited for the new experience.  The number of things I have to get done between here and there is about a mile long, but it'll all work out somehow.  And then... back to regularly scheduled posting.

Loraine and Al - otherwise known as my best friend and her new hubby!

Did I mention my best friend was getting married this weekend?  Well, she did.  To an exceptionally fantastic man, I might add.

Oh, and did I mention I was the maid of honor?

Did I mention I was the photographer?

Just so everyone can keep posted, here are a few pictures from outside the Manti temple this morning.  More to shoot at the reception tomorrow!

Marianne and Dan - Engagements

What do you do when Utah gives you a blustery, snow-covered spring morning?  Head to the greenhouse!

Marianne and Dan wanted to take advantage of the beauties of spring, but Mother Nature wasn't going to hear of giving a warm, clear day within our time frame.  The folks over at Sunshine Greenhouses were the cordial hosts to our shoot, and their facilities are beautiful!  They have fantastic plants and greenhouses, and we had so much fun that I really want to go back and get some geraniums...
